Rather, I am trying to express the loss of the physical connections with the rest of my family and it was a gradual loss that spanned 13 years before I finally made my way back. I know someone who moved here from Lebanon and she calls her parents every day and has been doing this for two years. She must be spending a fortune on phone cards. I'd say she is just as close with her family here as she was there. It all depends on how much effort you put into a relationship. A strong one will not break or weaken from something like distance.
